What Do Grange Primary Governors Do?

The governing body works with the Headteacher and the staff at the school to ensure the school provides good quality education for all its pupils, and constantly strives to improve.

The 3 key roles of a Governing Body are to:

  • Provide strategic direction for the school
  • Support the head teacher but constantly look to raise standards
  • Ensure accountability

This means as a Governor you may be involved in:

  • Deciding how the budget should be spent and ensuring good value for money
  • Making sure the curriculm provides for and challenges all pupils
  • Making sure the school buildings are welcoming, safe and fit for purpose
  • Setting and monitoring the school's values, aims and policies
  • Appointing staff

Statutory Information

The school and governors are obliged by law to provide you with the following information:

All parents when admitting their children to Grange Primary School are asked to make contact with the school’s Special Education Needs co-ordinator (SENCo), if their children require support either with a physical or educational need.  Meetings will be arranged, risk assessments made, statements read and programmes devised to ensure that the school supports the idea that ‘Every Child in Grange Primary School Matters’. All children at Grange Primary School are given appropriate and fully inclusive educational opportunities, with Individual Educational Plans and support staff employed if appropriate.

The school’s grounds and building have recently been upgraded to adhere to legislation regarding access to the school by pupils with disabilities.

The governors have put in place an accessibility plan which is looking at increasing access for all pupils and parents able and disabled.

The staff and governors regularly review the Special Educational Needs policy which is available if parents desire to read it.  The Special Educational Needs co-ordinator meets termly with the Special Educational Needs governor, who then reports the implementation of the policy within the school curriculum.

Parents and governors have in place a Disability Equality Scheme, which is regularly reviewed in line with legislation.

Bumped Heads

As you may have seen-we have been supplying wristbands in the event of a child bumping their head (along with a "Bumped Head" letter).  This is to make you immediately aware should your child become poorly-that they have had a "Bump" in school.

Once you have seen the band then please remove it for the following day.

Many thanks.
