EYFS (Reception)

 

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) team at Grange Primary School work together with parents/carers to ensure children are happy and settle quickly into school life. We offer a comprehensive Induction programme, which includes an open afternoon, home visits, visits to the classroom and information meetings.

Our curriculum is specifically planned for the EYFS pupils and emphasises the importance of learning through play and first-hand experience, whilst taking regard of the whole child’s development. Through the teaching of the prime areas (Communication and language; Physical development; Personal, social and emotional development) and the specific areas (Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the world; Expressive arts and design) of learning, we aim to provide a rich and varied environment which challenges and stimulates children’s curiosity and imagination. We aim to develop their independence and responsibility within a supportive and secure setting, including an emphasis on using the outdoor environment.

The EYFS curriculum is based on a number of documents which identify seven areas of learning and development which cover children from birth up to five years of age, and includes their first year at school:
