Year 5 CLC global conference report

On Thursday 21st March the year five children went on a trip CLC to learn about being a good global citizen. At first we didn’t know what a global citizen was but throughout the day we learned so much. We went with other schools. We talked about what makes a good global citizen and looked at the use of plastic in the Philippines, and watched a video of two children who have collected 56,632 pieces of plastic waste, mostly plastic straws, plastic cups and lids. We played the banana game, which was about Fair Trade and the problems facing farmers and then looked at the global goals, matching the symbols up to what each one showed. There was an activity where you needed to match the food up the where it came from on a world map.

Throughout the conference we wrote down our thoughts and ideas on a graffiti wall and at the end of the conference we were all asked to come up with a challenge of something we could do to make a difference to the world that we live in.

We thought you might like to watch the film clips that inspired us, and hope that they inspire you too.

 Report written by Year 5

For our first piece of themed homework, the children were asked to research an area of interest and look at how it had changed or developed since the 1950s. These are the beautiful timelines they produced at home. Thank you and well done. Year 5/6 teachers

A big "Thank You" to parents for providing boxes. Below are some examples of the children's work where they re-created a room on the titanic either 3rd,2nd or 1st class.

Creative Art Club

Monday evening saw the first week of our  new and exciting creative art club. We are researching inspirational reading quotes and are planning to put these onto canvases using paints and other materials.

The children will be learning and performing the poem set out below at the upcoming Poetry Slam which will be taking place at the CLC.

During our Upper School Assembly children created an Accostic Poem following on from our theme for that week's assembly which was Friendship:

F riendly, family friends first
R especting others and self
I ncluding everyone
E xciting games to share
N on-judgemental no-one deserves to be bullied
D eserving a friend

H elp everyone

P lay with people, be polite.
